Josephine Lamar Dementia Study (JLDS)

JLDS is a longitudinal study of individuals with Mild-Moderate Dementia that focuses on studying disease progression and the myriad of lifestyle factors that potentially influence progression.  This pool of over 100 participants allows researchers to develop better tools for monitoring disease progression and to explore the impact of disease progression on factors such as fall risk.

Participants in JLDS receive annual:

  • Cognitive assessments (including measures of memory and disease staging)
  • Gait/Falls risk assessment
  • Frailty assessment
  • Physical/Neuropsychological Exam and Labs (optional)

When conducted in it's entirity, these evaluations mirror the comprehensive evaluation received at all NIH sponsored Alzheimer's Disease Centers (ADC) throughout the country.

Combined with LABrainS, JLDS allows researchers to study brain aging across the spectrum from normal aging to mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to active dementia in all its stages.  Such a continuum of research is invaluable in understanding the disease process and developing potential therapeutics and interventions.

JLDS also affords a pool of well-categorized participants that is paramount to attracting clinical trials from the pharmaceutical industry and imperative to developing grants for future interventions.
