Louisiana State University Continuing Education:
Caregiving for an Individual with Dementia

February 24, 2015 - April 14, 2015, 5:00-6:30 PM
Pennington Biomedical Research Center
Course Director: Dr Jeffrey Keller, Pennington Biomedical Research Center

With the explosion in the number of cases of dementia (Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, etc) there has been a dramatic increase in the number of individuals who need to provide care to loved ones with dementia. Unfortunately, many of these caregivers have not been provided an education on dementia, or taught how to care for individuals with dementia. Additionally, many of these same people are unclear of how to handle many of the financial and legal issues which arise as the result of trying to provide care for someone with dementia. The objective of this course was to provide the caregiver a comprehensive overview of dementia, how to care for individuals with dementia, and educate individuals on financial and legal issues related to dementia. This team taught course provided structured lectures, hands on experience, as well as time for question and answer on a variety of topics related to dementia and caregiving for loved ones with dementia. A detailed outline, presentations and video of this team taught lecture series is provided below.
